The Christmas Cottage at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport
The goal of the Christmas Cottage is to inspire travelers with the magic of eternal Christmas and offer a uniquely Finnish experience. Located in the airport’s new West Wing near Gate 40, the cottage provides a cozy escape for passengers to enjoy the Christmas spirit year-round.
Before their flights, travelers can embrace the holiday mood with various activities offered at the cottage. These include browsing books in Mrs. Claus’s library, enjoying Christmas music and stories, or experiencing the Finnish sauna. The sauna creates a festive ambiance through sensory details: the sauna stove hisses as if water is being poured on it when a traveler sits on the bench. Above the bench, fragrance vents allow visitors to enjoy delightful Christmas scents.
At the Christmas Cottage desk, travelers can find Santa’s Book of Names, where they are invited to write about their good deeds directly to Santa Claus! Outside the cottage, Finavia’s very own elf, Aamu Eerhartti, roams the area, ready to take pictures with travelers before their journey.
A Dynamic and Sustainable Design
Visually, the Christmas Cottage surprises with intricate details and seasonal elements that change throughout the year. In summer, it offers a distinctly different look compared to the festive Christmas season. The structure and materials emphasize Finnish craftsmanship and sustainability; the cottage is built from Finnish wood. The decor incorporates Finnish design, aligning with Helsinki-Vantaa Airport’s aesthetic. Many decorative elements in the cottage are handmade in Finland.
All components of the Christmas Cottage are selected with sustainability and reusability in mind, ensuring a lasting and eco-friendly experience.
